New York Manhattan Market Delicatessen

New York, a city known for so many iconic things, not the least of which is amazing food. With options ranging from upscale to everyday, the delicatessens are certainly among the favorite eateries to be found there. I will speak for myself and say that I would enjoy nothing more than a hot pastrami sandwich and dill pickle at just such a deli right about now. If only it wasn’t such a long drive to New York City. But I ask you, why must we travel so far in order to partake in such a feast? The good news is that now we don’t have to. It is as simple as taking a short drive to 1331 Edwin Miller Boulevard, Martinsburg, WV to New York Manhattan Market Delicatessen.

Mark Busby, co-owner and operator of New York Manhattan Market Delicatessen, was raised in and around the restaurant business most of his life in Lovettsville, VA. His father Tom Busby successfully owned restaurants for many years and is now Marks business partner and co-owner of the deli. All I can say is that these two gentlemen obviously know what they are doing when it comes to good food. One look at their face book page and it is clear that this new eatery is just what the doctor ordered for the Martinsburg, WV area. Boasting an impressive 4.7 out of 5 star rating is no small feat for a restaurant that had its soft opening only a short time ago in mid October of 2016. I have to say that to call it a soft opening is almost comical seeing as how New York Manhattan Market Delicatessen was met with a steady stream of customers on that first day. And let me tell you that there is no sign of business slowing down any time soon. As a matter of fact, those eager new customers have quickly become enthusiastic regulars.

Mark, whose hobby is stand up comedy, has spent a lot of time in New York City working the comedic circuit. During his time there, he has frequented and subsequently fell in love with the cities delis. “I got tired of not being able to find a good Reuben,” Busby said. With that he decided to do something about it and began doing months of research on the subject of running a successful New York deli. Fortunately he met with much support and enthusiasm from those members of the deli industry and they happily shared with him their secrets to success. As it would happen, all of us get the pleasure of benefiting from his good fortune. Just wait until you try this place and you will see what I mean.

All you have to do is step foot inside the door of New York Manhattan Market Delicatessen to feel as if you have been transported to down town New York City itself. This well thought out space welcomes its guests with the amazing aroma of delectable edible scents of the finest quality. One must admit that these pleasing smells immediately sets your mouth watering and your stomach growling for the feast that most certainly awaits you. One look at the menu and all that is left for you to do is make a choice on which tasty delight to try first. You will know with out a doubt that this will become your new favorite place to eat. After making your selection, you can spend the short wait time admiring the large Lewis Hine reproduction prints that proudly hang on the walls of New York Manhattan Market Delicatessen. This stunning artwork pays homage to the very men who built not just our great New York City but also what we now know as the delicatessen as well. If not for them, we might never know the tasty joy of the Reuben or even a hot pastrami sandwich. That in and of itself warrants a heartfelt nod from all of us deli lovers. No doubt the comfortable yet extremely clean environment of the place will strike you and leave you even more impressed.

Mark Busby takes great pride in every aspect of the New York Manhattan Market Delicatessen, from the quality, fresh cuisine to the prompt, friendly service and clean, comfortable atmosphere; he has definitely thoroughly covered all of the bases. Many of their meats such as Corned Beef, Pastrami, Roast Beef, Smoked Beef Brisket, and Roast Turkey Breast are made on site. “We make our own corned beef, our own roast beef and turkey… grind it, smoke it and do all that good stuff to it,” Busby states. As for the other available meats they are either imported or acquired locally, this is also true of their large variety of cheeses and other delicious fare.

Even the menu honors the history of New York City and its famous offspring and popular destinations. With many of their yummy sandwiches being named after them, no doubt these celebrity people (some of them infamous) and historical places would be honored. Especially after having a big, juicy bite of their namesake. I mean I can just imagine the greats like Frank Sinatra, George Burns, Lucy and Ricky Ricardo, and Rocky Marciano all sitting at one of the tables in New York Manhattan Market Delicatessen laughing and enjoying their perspective sandwiches. Naturally Al Capone and his gang of tough guys will be there as well, but likely at a separate table. Seriously this food is so amazing that I am confident that even they would be thrilled to lay their weapons down long enough to savor that crazy good food. This yummy menu even gives us lay people a chance to build our own incredible creation, and if it cuts the mustard, they’ll let us name it and make it part of the menu as well. How cool is that? I myself have committed to the challenge and plan to get started straight away. I realize that it might take a while and numerous attempts to secure my coveted place on the menu but I am willing to sacrifice my waste line for a chance at attaining that brass ring.

Many of us may prefer to take our meal home to enjoy. No problem, just order it to go or select one of New York Manhattan Market Delicatessens party platters and share with family and friends. These platters are piled high with only the freshest and finest deli meats and cheeses and are sure to please even the most finicky of folks. Oh and allow me to mention the nice selection of sweet desserts to choose from, how about a slice of New York Cheesecake, House-Made Tiramisu or a nice Cannoli to name a few. These sound tempting don’t they? I assure you, the selection of desserts alone is worth the trip.

Now that I am confident that I have successfully made everyone hungry for some authentic New York deli food, you really must set your GPS to 1331 Edwin Miller Boulevard Martinsburg, WV, and satisfy your craving. New York Manhattan Market Delicatessen is the one and only place, short of driving all the way to New York City, that you can enjoy everything there is to love about true deli food in our area.
