Around The Panhandle | July & August 2014

Dear Readers:

Over the past year I have had the privilege of being the president of the Rotary Club of Martinsburg. Well all good things must come to an end but I am so proud of our numerous accomplishments in the last 12 months.

Thanks to Marilyn Schoon, Bill Wortley, Ross and Pam Curtis – we provided much needed clothes to orphans in Diepsloot, South Africa.

Thanks to Pete Dufourny, Doug Frye, Leslie Crabill and all the other volunteers – we held a “Pick your own charity Luau” which raised over $10k for local charities.

Thanks to Vickie Elliott, Berniece Collis, Tina Combs and all the other donors – we managed to provide each 3rd grader in Berkeley County with an educational coloring book as well as left each library with hardback book.

Herman Dixon, Steve Roach and Pete Dufourny installed Little Free Libraries decorated brilliantly by each our high schools.

Our signature event – The Kelley Kisner Taste of the Panhandle – raised over $40k for the Shenandoah Women’s Center and CCAP Loaves and Fishes thanks to Pam Wagoner, Gail Moxley and their countless volunteers.

That really is only the tip of the iceberg as to what we did this past year. I urge anyone who wants to make a difference locally as well as on a global scale, visit a Rotary club near you and see how you can really change lives.
